Sony VCR creasing bottom of tape?

Guest
Hi,
My sharp vc-a343 is eating or creasing the bottom of the black video
tape causing low audio and the picture to fast forward or play video
faster than normal. But then sometimes it plays them fine.
Thanks in advance for any help ,J

Sharp or Sony? :)

Assuming there has been no abuse, first thing would be to give it aood
cleaning and check the pinch roller for deterioration. If it is hard
and shiny, may need to be replaced.

Could also be a number of other things.

See the VCR repair guide for more info.

A quick test for a pinch roller is while the tape is playing, hit Rew. Watch
the tape as it passes over the audio\control head. If it starts to ride up
or down on the audio head, then the pinch roller needs to be replaced.
(that chassis is bad about pinch rollers going bad)

I have seen this problem and it is related to the tape tension produced on
the supply reel by the brake band that goes around the supply hub, left side
reel. The tension is controlled by an arm that presses against the tape
between two posts. Try adjusting the way the arm interacts with the tape.
this has worked for me more than once. New brake band or just cleaning it
may also solve the problem
