I have a Sony 19 inch trinitron, 20 years old in October. It has had
heavy use and no trouble in all that time, but eventually, I knew
signs of age would show up.
So- after I turn it on, there are these random flashes, almost seems
like electical noise. The picture briefly collapses in from the right
and left a few inches on both sides. There may be a bright flash that
goes with this and a little bit of snow on the screen and a little
burst of static on the audio. Each of these is a second or less in
duration. It happens after I turn on the set, seemingly at random, a
few flashes, a minute or two, another flash...then after 10 to 15
minutes this stops happening completely and the picture is perfect.
I have tried running from a VCR tuner, just in case this might be a TV
tuner issue, but nothing changes.
Does anyone recognize these symptoms as typical of a specific failure?
Is this, as I fear, the sign of a failing mechanism in the picture
tube itself? If so, could anyone estimate how long this may stay as
it is before getting worse, maybe not going away after warm up?
Thanks.
