Hi,

I suspect something is wrong with the gain on the input signal coming from
the 15 ping connector. The display is very dark, however when I use the
front panel menu functions, the colors for the menu and text are bright
and crisp. So, this would suggest the monitor is OK, it's just not
amplifying the video input signal properly.

Just looking for a general idea of what to check. I'm going to have a
look at the circuitry in the input area. Any idea as to whether the BNC
inputs are separated from the 15 pin ones? If so, I may try to find a
cable to test using the other inputs.

I managed to get a 5-BNC video cable, and the monitor exhibits the same
issue - the video input signal is dark/dim, but the front panel menu boxes
are plenty bright and colorful.

I've figured out that what I may need to do is adjust the white balance.
Apparently on Sony Multiscan monitors, this is done through an RS-232
serial connection, using some sort of DAS software. On this particular
model, there is the 4-pin adapter underneith the plastic cover, which
according to the manual is where a serial cable (with some special ###
adapter) plugs into.

I've managed to get schematics for a 20SE1T, and maintenance manual for
17SE2T which gives basics (but no schematics). In the schematics I see a
place where the RGB video inputs get tied to other outputs from an ic
processor (presumably the front panel menu system), after going through a
buffer. Anyways, not getting anywhere fast on this.

There have been hints about potential service mode through the monitor
front panel - anyone know whether this is possible on this monitor or not?
