Sony Trinitron High Pitched sound

Our Sony Trinitron of 7 years has started making a high pitched sound
- it comes on suddenly and sometimes if we tap the sides of the TV it
goes away, but most of the time we have to switch it off because we
can't stand it. The Picture quality is very good though - Any ideas?

One of the internal reactive components such as a coil or transformer
that is handling a fair amount of current may have developed a few loose
windings internally. The said component is most likely going in to some
type if resonance, or there is an associated component that is not
working properly. There also may be some capacitors that have become
high in ESR due to age, and thus are not properly bypassing, decoupling,
or coupling signals properly, in the type of job that they are supposed
to do in their particular location.

If you take the set to a service shop that knows the Sony products very
well, they should be able to find the cause of this noise for you.
