Hi,

I'm sentimentally attached to my Sony cassette recorder TCM27. I put it
away for about 1 year and when I retrieved it it was faulty. It will play
but will not rewind or FastForward. - definately NOT battery or PSU.
Local repair shop says drive clutch release is worn and Sony cannot supply
parts .
Is this a common fault on this model ? Any other solutions ?
Or is it possible to get old Sony parts outside of the loop ?

TIA

Regards

Denis M:
Take it to a different repair shop.... they may find a different fault
causing the problem or they mat be able to obtain the necessary parts from
other sources. Try another shop, when you take it there, it would be best
if you just provided symptoms you observed, do NOT provide a self diagnosis
or the other shop's diagnosis regarding the clutch which may or may not be
the culprit.

If all else fails...

I believe that the early clutches were nothing
more than a (washer shaped) felt disc. Sandwiched
between two plastic disks, or perhaps glued to one
of them and slipping on the other.

It's possible that rather than throwing it away
with all your memories that you may be able to make
your own.

Take care.

Thank you both. i will explore the innards and see if a repair/remake is
possible. ;)
