Sony R1000 svhs deck problem

Hello, I've got a R1000 with a couple problems.

When loading a tape, most of the time the front lid that is supposed to
close down after a tape is inserted, instead only closes half way.

Another problem is that sometimes when playing a tape, I hit the stop or
rewind button and hear a noise inside and the vcr shows some numbers on
the display. When I eject the tape, it comes out undamanged. Today, this
happened, but made a louder noise, I hit eject, and my tape came out
half spliced.

I assume something needs lubricated?

Will lubricate do I use and Is there a online FAQ with photos? thanks
for reading.

If it's the chassis I'm thinking of, check the 1/2 load arm, the guide that
carries the tape past the audio/control head. It should move freely and
return to it's position when you release it. If you remove it to clean /
lubricate, count the turns of the nut exactly so you can return it very
close to it's original height.

That is one of the most high end consumer VCRs money used to be able to
buy. I suggest you find someone who really knows what they're doing to work on
it. I got an SLV 920 and believe me I won't let anyone touch it. These were the
last of the good ones.
