I need to make a house call for what sounds like a typical convergence
problem. Customer says the center of the screen looks OK problem is
mostly around the perimeter. The job is about 50 miles from the shop
though so I would really appreciate if anyone knows exactly which
convergence IC's are used in this model and also if there there are
any service notes on convergence failures with this set as well.
Thanks for any assistance. Lenny.

There is an 11 part service manual here:

99 % sure it uses the STK 392-560 convergence IC's.

Be a good adea to take along a couple picofuses as well, 5A as I recall.
There are some Sony models which get a bad picofuse on a separate power
supply board when the convergence amps fail, in addition to the picofuses
hiding under the STK's heatsinks, of which 1 or 2 could be bad.

Do you guys recall if on this chassis the convergence board is a
separate small board like on some of the Mitsu's and Samsungs that I
can easily unplug and work on on the kitchen table if I have to? Lenny

As I recall, the convergence ass'y is about 11 x 14 inches.

Sounds like a board in a plastic frame held by small screws around
the perimiter. If so it should come out from the top. Shouldn't be too
bad. Thanks, Lenny.

No it's a large board.
Check out numerous articles and discussion on TECHLORE.com discussing
just these SONY convergence issues and that STK IC.

Finding and checking the PIC FUSES on this D Board and G Board appears
to be key from the discussions.
