Sony Monitor Wont start up LED flashing

Guest
Hi All
I have just scored a Sony GDM-5010PT monitor that starts up for a
split second then goes into a fault code. Manual says yellow(1.5sec)
Off (.5sec) = Horizontal/Verticle Deflection failure, thermal
protector? Are they talking about fuseable resistors?.
If someone could just point me into the right area to start looking
that would be a great help, I have the workshop manual and have
checked all the fuseable resistors in both power supply and HV
circuit boards.
Thanks for any reply.

Everyone is pointing me towards the IC007 CXA2043Q, I might start with
this, Can anyone tell me where i can get one in Aus?
Does anyone other than Sony have it?.

In the past, I often found symptoms such as this would mean that there
was a problem with the high voltage capacitors in the horizontal
deflection circuit, with the result the EHT voltage was going high,
and an X_Ray protection circuit was being tripped, shutting down the
monitor within a short time. Checking (or replacing) the high
voltage caps in this area is a good start to curing this problem.

Be careful though, I have seen one case where the EHT voltage has
risen so high that its arced from under the rubber cap to the yoke (on
a 51cm set). Fortunately it didnt do any permanent damage to the
tube, yoke or chassis, but I wouldnt count on this luck too many times
in a row.

Also had a painful experience many years back trying to discharge such
an EHT before working on this problem. (obviously with the power off)
so be extra careful in this case, use well insulated tools, perferably
LONG ones !

As for the IC, WES components may stock it. Failing that, call Sony,
As I remember from a call to them some time ago, they couldn't supply
it themselves but were happy to give the number of the company that
did supply their spares, and I soon had the part that was needed.

Hi,

This sounds like some horizontal fault. Possibly horizontal output
transistor is gone.

But, since this monitor uses CXA2043, this would be the first thing to
change. I had to replace it in every monitor where this IC is used. It is
about $60 trade, but pain to replace.

Thanks all
I found IC at Speedy Spares, Part # 875 207 846 $60 +freight
Whilst waiting for IC i will go over some caps , starting around the
horizontal Transistor and any hot spots.
I will give an update when i have fitted part.
