Sony Monitor excessive brightness CPD-E400

This monitor is mine if I can repair it. The symptom is excessibe
brightness with retrace lines. Screen control on the flyback does
nothing. Voltage at G2 is like 660V or something - I am pretty sure
this might be too high. All resistors in the G2 circuit seem to be ok,
and I replaced a high voltage cap as well just in case. Basically the
crt board (at least the part directly attatched to the tube) checks
fine.

Could this be a result of something near the flyback- or the flyback
itself?
Has anyone seen a case history on this model?

As usual, any and all advice is highly appreciated. - Tim

Yes, look around the flyback for an open resistor, I've seen this a number
of times on older monitors.
