Hi there,

I recently purchased a second hand Sony KV28DS20U wega widescreen CRT
TV off ebay and I've noticed a few things in the picture....

1) Horizontal Bowing of the picture - Has anybody come up with a fix
for this yet? I know how to get into the test menu's and I have
already sorted out the vertical geometry problems this set had but
there doesn't seem to be any options to adjust the horizontal. Is it
something that has to be adjusted internally?

2) 2 thin ghost lines travelling vertically downwards in the upper
right corner about 1 inch in. I only notice them on a light grey or
white background and its ver slight - Is this normal for a wega and
can it be fixed?

3) There seems to be approx 19 burnt phosphors on the screen. Although
I can't see them when I'm watching TV it worries me that this set
might have put some serious viewing hours in and may cause me problems
a few years down the line... Any thoughts?

4) Discolouration of image (Pink flesh appears purple etc) in upper
right and lower left corners. As I understand it this could be
something to do with magnetic fields and can sort itself out through
the TV's natural degaussing. Could this be caused by anything more
serious?

If anybody can give me any help on this it would be appreciated - I
just want to make sure I haven't bought a turkey!

Cheers

Guy

There may be some purity faults causing discoloration.

The bowing can be from defective caps or other components in the pin amp
section, or the deflection yoke may have a fault.

The vertical smear is sort of unusual. Usually they will smear across the
screen horizontally. This type of smearing is usually attributed to a
defective CRT, if there are no frequency response problems in the video amp
sections.

In the service menus there are only very limited set-ups for the geometry in
these sets. There are no complete set-ups in the set-up menu for the
convergence and purity. Most of these set-ups are done with the magnets on
the neck of the CRT, and the slip magnets that are between the deflection
yoke and the CRT bell at the neck.
