Sony KV27TS2D - Worth repairing?

Hello all...

I rescued this TV from "Curbside Discount" and it is in excellent overall
shape. The set looks like new and has a great picture. Only the tuner does
not seem to be working. I can get a picture, but both picture and audio cut
in and out and jump around often. I guess the tuner is defective or needs
some soldering work to work properly again. The composite video input works
perfectly and produces an absolutely beautiful picture with good brightness,
color and focus.

Is the set worth a proper repair, and if so, what might that cost? Can the
set be used without risking further damage if I use only the composite video
input? It seems a shame to put such a set outdoors for the trash collection.

Resolder or replace the IF can, it's near the tuner and is likely the
problem. You could track it down with some freeze spray, otherwise you can
safely use it with the composite video input, a friend of mine used his Sony
for several years with that same problem until I fixed it.

Just hook it up FROM your favorite VCR with the video and audio INPUT jacks
on the television.
It will be easy to screw up the entire television to the point that it won't
work at all unless you are well versed with this particular design and have
excellent soldering skills and relevant experience..... just use the A/V
inputs and enjoy the television...,.
