Sony KV2720 strangely arcing

I've this Sony TV that occasionally will make an arcing noise and shut
down.
This happens when picture changes suddently from a dark scene to a
brighting scene, for example a black screen followed by a sudden 100%
white screen. I can't find where the arcing noise comes from but I
suspect it is the flyback. What would you guess?

CRT !

Jeroni Paul:
Enjoy your Sony TV (model number and manufactured date unknown / not
posted) while it is still working. Soon, the CRT will produce more arcing
and eventually the television will not work any more and will not be
economically repairable due to the high cost of replacing the CRT, other
failed components and the associated installation labor.

Almost always this is a bad CRT. Replacing the CRT should fix the set. You
will find that the cost of the CRT replacement may exceed the replacement
cost of the set.

Sudden jump from darks to brights (white) then SNAP! Set goes dead?
How this can happen? I thought HV would fall for few KVs not UP?
That model I thought is also basic without HV boosting stuff?

This what this make sense to me because I had external PS feeding a
little 6" sony set with blown SMPS (only one output and to confirm
rest of set is worth fixing for estimate.) PS adjustable output has
pair of meters that display voltage went down slightly, current
wobbles about 5% to 10% in time with brights & darks. That power
supply current went up with higher beam current.

Ever curious.

Cheers,

Wizard

Thank you to all.
TV is Sony model KV2720 Trinitron tube.
After I repaired it I (changed all bad electrolytics) had to increase
G2 voltage because it displayed a full green picture, the automatic
current balance would go crazy. The tube is at the end of its life but
when it works still looks great.
Knowing it is not repairable I will use it as is.

Jeroni Paul:
YES..... good plan.
BTW.... after I wrote my previous reply I noticed the model number in the
subject line of the OP... sorry.
What is the manufactured date? ? If much over 7 to 10 years old, with
normal use ... what ever that is..... most CRTs are past the half way point
of their useful life.
