Sony KV-25K5U

Hello All,

I'm having problems with an old Sony KV-25K5U tv. It seems to be stuck in a
loop of going through its stored channels. I've checked the remote for stuck
buttons and left it unplugged for a couple of days, but it's a no go. Does
the same even with devices plugged into the scart.

If I display the teletext this stops the loop, but then I just have a screen
of text. As soon as you remove the text it starts looping again. The tv was
working fine until I tried tuning it in using the self tuning menu at which
point the fault started. Also, if you switch it off using the remote standby
button it waits a few seconds turns itself back on and starts the looping
again. Forgot to mention, the red led on the front panel is on a constant
blink.

Any ideas?

It is possible that one of the font buttons are stuck on, such as one of the
channel buttons? You would have to have the set taken apart, and this
properly checked. The button may physically look and feel okay, but it is
not. The contact point under it may be conducting. We have seen this where
people sprayed cleaners on the face of the CRT, and leaked down below on to
the circuit boards under the mask. It is also possible that there is some
type of failure that is dealing with the main controller, or the tuner
section itself.
