My friend has a Sony DVP-V5315 dvd player that he said got hit in a
lightening storm. He says it pops the fuse everytime he replaces it.
from a quick look after just taking the top off, everything looks fine.
No black marks or anything. Does anyone have any ideas what needs to
be replaced?

Thanks
Terry

Probably rectifier diodes short circuit check with multimeter

I think that's probably a DVP-NS315.

There's probably not just 1 thing. Likely the main switcher is shorted, and
you'll need to check the other diodes, resistors, etc.

1-468-645-11

is the part number for the complete supply. (U.S. Model)

List price 69.78 , listed in-stock.

Dealer price slightly less.

The model number is correct, it came in a "Complete Home Theater"
package with a reciever and speakers.

Anyway, thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

Sony models numbers can be funny sometimes. Is this the model number from
the back of the DVD player itself?
I looked it up on their servicer website and the model didn't come up.

Yep, sure is. The model number of the reciever that it came with is
STR-K740P. Not sure what, if any, model nimber is on the speakers.

I looked up the part number you gave me on servicesales.sel.sony.com.
Do you know of anywhere I could find a picture of the part, to make sure
it's the same thing.

Thanks for all your help

Well, if the receiver came as part of the HT-1700D Home Theater system, they
list the dvd player as a DVP-NS315. I can't find any reference to the dvd
model number you gave.
If yours is a DVPNS-315 after all, then that would be a correct part number.

Heh, yeah, DVP-NS315 is the right nodel number. Even sitting here
looking at it last night, and I still misread it. I really need to get
my eyes checked.

Sorry for any confusion. Boy do I fell like an ass.

Thanks

Now the only question is do you feel like paying that much for the part to
fix it. I'm a tech - my labor is free (well, on Sundays anyway) and I'm not
sure even I would fix that one - it's a lesser expensive model anyway.
I've been interested in the Pioneer DV-563, can't quite remember the
suffix - AF or some such. Does everything but take out the trash - and it's
selling all over at 170.00 or less.

Never got it - that's an obsolete address - one way to avoid the spammers
and virus-sending scum.

Ahh, cool.

All it said was that my friend didn't seem too thrilled about spending
that much to fix it. He was hoping for a cheap fix.

Oh well, thanks for all your help.
