Sony DVP-S550D - No power

Hi -

I have a Sony DVP-S550D that a friend asked me to look at. It shows the red
"standby" LED when plugged in; when you press power or play, the LED turns
green for about 3 seconds then turns red again. The motors do not spool up,
and the display does not light up at all.

I have searched the Web for similar problems, but have found no fixes for
this model - any suggestions?

You sure about that, Mark? :)

Sorry, I couldn't resist...

It's failing it's initialization routine. Maybe no power to the motors,
maybe a jammed sled motor.

Well, there are other possibilities, no doubt, but we when we hear the
hoofbeats we think horses, not zebras.

Don't worry about the "couldn't resist" thing.

Well since the motors arent turning, and NOTHING
else is happening, it could be a failed microprocessor.
or something in the power supply is dead.

Well, if you are the same "techie" who wrote the following, maybe he doesn't
want your advice.

(If you're not the same guy - apologies.)
