Sony DVP-NC600 Stasndby, then powers down.

I have a Sony DVD-Player that i need to fix.
i have no interest in dealing with sony on this.

Model DVP-NC600 It powers on with the word
standby...then goes off. Tray will not unload either.

i used to be able to see the startup screen but now im not
even getting that far.

I know ive read alot about how certin capicators will
do wierd things with these decks, does anyone know
of a Particular Cap number that would get me into direction
of the fix on this thing.
Im assuming you guys have seen this again and again
or at least someone has.

You will need the player's remote control.

After pressing the power button on the player, confirmed when the word STANDBY
flashes on the front display, press the POWER button on the remote and see what
happens.

Or, press PLAY on the player.

This should bring it out of stand-by.

Later Sony model players do not use a push-lock switch for the power button on
the player (which cuts the power to the PS module directly), but employ a
regular pushbutton to bring the player out of stand-by. - Reinhart

It's Toshiba, not Sony models which have the notorious cap problems.

Your's probably relates to the pickup assembly. An initialization routine
must be completed at POWER ON. Failing this, the unit just shuts back down -
usually so fast you never even see the display come on.

Could be a bad sled stepper motor - I've seen 2 like that lately, but the
motor is sold as part of the larger pickup assembly.

Retail cost to fix would be over 100.00, possibly up to 140.00 - 150.00. The
part alone is 65.00.

Your's probably relates to the pickup assembly. An initialization routine

Except, when he presses the power button on his DVD player, the word STANDBY
appears on the display before going off.

I would advise trying to get the player out of standby first before jumping to
conclusions.

In a side note, all Sony DVD players that uses a hard power switch (switch
which directly cuts power to the power supply module) will go into standby mode
automatically when you power up the player through its hard switch. This was
something that was done with 3rd generation Sony players (like my DVP-S360) and
was abandoned in favor of a more convenient soft-power/standby switch on the
5th generation.

You get it out of standby by pressing the power button on the remote that is
supplied with the player, although you can also get out of stand by mode by
pressing the PLAY button on the player itself.

If getting the player out of standby by pressing PLAY on the player or pressing
the POWER button on the remote does not work, then the cause is probably what
you have mentioned: an initialization failure which is causing the player's
onboard protection to keep the player on stand by. - Reinhart

This is exactly what they do in this failure mode. Doesn't guarantee that's
the OP's problem, but I'd certainly look to see if the laser pickup ever
gets back to the home position. My bet is it doesn't.
