G'day all,

I have a Sony DVP-NC600 DVD/CD/VCD player which i have a fault with. After a
using the unit for about 40mins or so the player will shutdown and switch
off. I then retry to turn it back on and it turns on and then instantly
shuts back down. I then can't get the unit to stay on. After a while of
leaving the unit turned off for a while it begins to function correctly.

This is only a fairly new DVD player and i would think that it should be an
easy fault or somethign simple.

Suggestions and Comments much appreciated.

Well it definately sounds like an overheating problem. Perhaps there is
a fan in this player (never heard of it, but who knows?) or the vent
holes dont have enough room to cool down the unit. If it is fairly new,
perhaps it is still under warranty? If not, you could always try freeze
spray on the mpeg decoder chip, as these do get fairly hot. After the
unit shuts down (presuming it will with the cover now off) apply a quick
burst of freeze spray to the heat sink on the chip and see if it will
power up.

Otherwise there is slim possibility its the power supply overheating.

If it's under warranty, don't even mess with it yourself - get it to an
authorized servicer for a repair.

If it's out-of warranty but not too far, Sony may still help you out. You'd
need to call their Customer Service.
