Sony DVP-NC600 No Power

I have a Sony DVP-NC600 that stopped reading dvds. It was the head
reader assembly. I bought a new part and installed it. All was well
for about a minute. After installation I powered it up without putting
the cover back on just to be sure all was well. Disk spun and
everything was humming along. I put the cover back on and suddenly the
power on the DVD player went off. Completely. No standby, nothing.

I initially thought I'd damaged something putting the cover back on but
there is no sign of any scratch or other damage to circuit boards or
components. Haven't checked anything with a multimeter yet since I have
no idea what I'd be checking in any case.

Is there a fuse, circuit breaker, CUDA or reset switch somewhere? Is
there something obvious that I should be looking for here?

Thanks

The power supply may have failed for some reason. The new head assy
may also be defective, or both. Or, there may be a problem in the
control circuits for the head assy.

When changing the head assy, did you do the proper power supply
checks?

Did you run the alignment disks, and perform the proper alignment
procedures to set the laser current, tracking, and focus setup?

When changing a head assy, you will need the serivice manual, scope,
DVM, and recomended calibraton disks.

Considering the cost of a new player, I would not see this to be worth
while, unless your player is a very expensive model.
