I have a sony dvp-nc600 that plays for a while and then shuts down,
could be a heat problem.

Although wil play the same cd on repeat for hours.
Seems to fail when swapping discs (it is a five disk player)

Any ideas?

John

They have lots of bad pickups on those, but if it plays a given disc
indefinitely without problems, maybe it's more of a flex-cable problem
involving the tray.
Or here's another one. If the spindle motor happens to stop in a "dead spot"
it may not start up again next time.
The spindle motor in those is a real piece of crap, and is not replaceable
separately - it's part of the pickup traverse unit.

Thanks Mark

The service manual arrived today and makes interesting reading.

There is a code that lets you know why the power was switched off, on
my player it is 03 which means that the IF controller thinks the main
controller has lost contact.

I will look into this further.

I opened the player up and found it was quite well made, boards not
too difficult to get to, found some surface mount electros getting
very hot (50 C) on the DSP board. The +11v supply had about 200mV of
noise on it. I am going to replace all electros that are getting hot.
