Sony DA5000ES surround receiver help please

Happy New Year everyone,

A friend brought over a SONY DA5000ES surround receiver where the owner
had shorted speaker leads and blown a channel. He (my friend, not the
owner)had replaced the 4 output devices in the channel (Q1671,1681, and
2 others that I can't see with the unit assembled.) sourcing the output
transistors from Sony.

The amp now powers up with a displayed message of "Check Code 11" The
topology of the receiver is totally unknown to me, and of course he does
not have a schematic diagram or service manual.

Any ideas?

11/PROTECTOR



Irregular current is output from the speakers. Turn

off the receiver, check the speaker connection and

turn on the power again."



I would not power up that unit or most any unit with new parts unless it was
in series with a current limiting light bulb.

These digital amps can be trouble. Even with the outputs replaced, a digital
driver IC may be bad also. Sometimes the circuit boards are damaged by the
driver chip flaming out. Then there are potential issues your friend could
have caused in there. I can't normally supply Sony manuals, but if you
haven't one, email me direct and I'll see if I can help. You could also
check Sony's flat rate at the Laredo Texas service center. Sometimes that is
more economical, although the cost of the outputs already replaced certainly
messes up THAT equation...
