Sony convergence problem

35" set model KV-35v36 about 6 years old has poor convergence of the green
vertical lines to red and blue (together fine) of the crosshatch pattern -
OK in the center, but off 1/8" or more at either edge. I know how to access
the service menu and have tried several adjustments unsuccessfully, each
time returning to the factory setup. I recorded all the settings 1st, & have
explanations of what they do, but few of the convergence adjustments show up
on the menu. Anybody know how to adjust or fix this? Any help will be
appreciated.

TIA.

Stop screwing with the service mode. Your tv set has to be manually
adjusted by a qualified and trained technician who knows what they are
doing. The convergence is set by the crt magnet rings and bi-metallic
strips carefully placed between the yoke and the tube. There may also be an
h-stat control that will have to be properly set first if it needs
readjusted for the age on the tube, sets the red and blue.

Of the XBR Sony sets that have minimal convergence adjustments, it is a very
careful and experienced eye to know when to use the convergence circuit,
versus the bi-metalic strips between the yoke and tube.

Sony tubes with the aperature grille take an extra special care and
experience in order to adjust properly.

Thanks for the advice!

Fortunately, I've made no changes to the service adjustments I haven't
already undone.

I did adjust the magnet rings 1st to improve the convergence in the center
(carefully marked the original position with a white paint pen, so I could
return them to factory position as well, if necessary).

I promise not to mess with them, but could you explain how the bimetallic
strips work, please? Are they magnetic, or shields (like mu metal?)?

How much should I expect to pay for professional convergence (FL, USA),
assuming only adjustments are necessary?

Thanks again.

Dave
