Sony CCD TRV-72 Error Message

Just recently my Sony CCD TRV-72 cam corder has been giving me fits.
After about 10 seconds of operation, the camera beeps, stops working
and displays the following error message: C:31:22. This happens during
playback, recording, fast forward, or rewind. The manual says to
remove the tape and re-insert. Doing this has not helped. Any
suggestions (other than scraping the unit) would be helpful.

More than likely a take-up problem (mechanical) or a loose LS chassis caused
by a dis-lodged "roller", a job for a camcorder technician with Sony
experience.
