I've read about common problems, and I believe my camcorder has leaky
caps. It won't load a tape because the motor won't spin up. Instead
of replacing the caps, I would plan to buy and replace the entire
board (I have disassembled the camcorder)before, so I know I can do
this. I found a site that sells the boards www.partsolver.com. I
just need to know which board would be causing this problem!

All the boards with the surface mount capacitors will need replaced for a
solid fix. If you do not mind replacing the boards every couple of months
as each new problem develops from the capacitors, go ahead and waste the
time doing it one at a time.

Provided the boards are not damaged from excessive leaky electrolyte, they
are not hard to replace all the capacitors in the camcorder for a proper
repair. Typical repair charges are only $225 or so for a good quality fix.

It might be a faulty motor or limit switch, replacing the boards without a
definite diagnosis isn't a really good idea.

I haven't run into problems like that on a FX410 series camera yet
that were caused by caps. Its certainly possible though. Can you
spin the drum freely with your hand? I seem to remember some of that
series that the screws in the handle would come out and jam the drum
motor up and it was a matter of taking the camera apart on removing
the screws and the plastic pieces, repairing the handle and you were
in good shape. Perhaps that was the fx400 series though. The FX
series board are marked quite well as to what section of the board you
are looking at. The board that drives the mechanism is the very
bottom board closest to the mech. It runs the length of the camera and
the video/audio board plugs into it. You might consider reseating the
mech board that mounts on the end of the camera that the mechanism
plugs into. I seem to remember some bad connections doing things like
this as well. Good luck.
