Symptom: Display is usually dark, but sometimes shows the time. Press the
power-on button (volume knob) and unit beeps once (per usual), but
immediately loses power. Everything goes dead. Very faintly I can see the
display flash about once a second, like it's trying to turn on. I open the
display ans can see the cassette Eject button strobing at the same rate.
With power off, I can change settings via the faceplate controls. The display
is a bit dim, but I can scroll through the settings (contrast, clock, etc)
and change them. (This has always been possible without powering on the
unit.)
Power supply to the unit is good. Ground is good. Fuse is good. I've traced
power through the big choke and to the protection diode and filter cap.
I presume that something in the supply path is marginal. Without a schematic
or experience, I'm not sure where to go next.
Anyone seen this symptom before? Have a fix?
Thanks,
