Sony BP-400 rechargeable battery belt

Hi.. I bought a garage sale battery pack belt for video cameras and the
cells appear to be shorted (output is 0.00V).
Since the belt and charger appear to be in new condition, I thought I'd take
the cells out and install new replacements (10 D-size cells arranged in 5
pairs).
Sony Battery Belt BP-400 12V 8A, 12V 1.3A, 9.6V 1A.

The belt material was heat sealed in a sort-of zipper fashion, and can be
opened by separating the "plasic spot welds", but there are a lot of 'em. I
think double sided tape can be used to reclose the belt.

I was wondering if anyone has developed an easier method of opening the belt
for replacing the cells.

Thanks in advance for any recomendations.

You would have to cut the belt opened, and replace the batteries. You
should change all of them at the same time. You may find it cheaper to buy
a complete new belt than to go out and buy the batteries from a dealer and
change them yourself.

You can use a strong tape to put the belt back together, but this can end up
being sort of messy looking, and after a while, the tape can start letting
go.

If I'm envisioning this correctly, adhesive velcro strips come to mind.
Attaching a piece of 'loop' on each side of the gap and using a
strip of 'hook' to close the gap should work nicely.
Luck.
