Sony 25 XBR snapping noise

Our old Sony 25 XBR seems to be wearing out. The picture is decidedly
reddish in tint or color. Today, I had it on with the volume all the way
down, I heard a pop or snap. Then a few more. In time with them the
picture was flashing or some thing like that. So is it safe to use? It's
not worth repairing at over 15 years old, maybe closer to 20. TV is now
unplugged. Would it be ok to try it again to see if it acts up again or
if it was a fluke?

This model is about 17 to 20 years old. In its time, it was probably the
best consumer set on the market.

Your snapping may be some of the high voltage parts breaking down. The pix
is red, most likely because the CRT is very warn down. I would strongly
consider a new replacement set.
