Solder pump

Hi,

I want to ask whether there are better methods to remove solders
covering through hole pads rather than using a solder pump.

It is inconvenient when the circuit is complex and components are
closed so that there is too less space to use sodler pump. I have tried
using desoldering wire but the result is also not good.

I think de-soldering wick (e.g. Soldamop) is 100 times better than a solder
sucker. It works like magic, ia ao much gentler and leaves the area
completely clean.

a desoldering station with a real vacumme pump and small probes work

well to clean off the mass.
you can also use fine conductor to feed in behind the legs of IC's
and then simply pull the wire out under the legs as you heat the legs
this is after you have used a desolderer to remove the bulk, this works
well for smt.
for through hole, i have found cutting the legs off the body, remove
the chip, use a flat bar soldering tip, hold it agaist the base of the
legs to soften the solder and also holds down the foil on the board as
you are pulling out 4..5 legs at a time.
this you do top side.
since the chip is being removed for most obvious reasons there should
be no problem in snipping the legs off the body first.
a hot hair pen also works well, it blows the solder away..
