TWO lesbian lovers jailed after one of them fed methadone to a crying
baby are being kept apart in Cornton Vale to stop them attacking each other.

Callous addict Susan Taylor, who put the heroin substitute on the
10-week-old boy's dummy, blames girlfriend Lynn Cowan for her three-year
sentence.

But angry Cowan hit back by calling Taylor "everything under the sun",
and guards had to pull them apart after their screaming rows turned violent.

Cowan is serving 10 months after failing to tell medics what Taylor had
done to the baby, who passed out and nearly died of methadone poisoning.

A prison source told the Record last night: "Taylor and Cowan were still
together when they came in but the bitterness didn't take long to surface.

"They were blaming each other. Cowan was distraught and calling Taylor
everything under the sun.

"They had fights a couple of times and the screws had to step in.
They're being kept in different parts of the jail now."

The insider added: "Taylor says Cowan knew she'd given the baby
methadone to stop him crying.

"She claims she didn't think it would do him any harm because it was
only a tiny amount on his dummy. She says he always cried and she didn't
like it.

"Cowan is convinced she is a victim. She says she kept quiet about the
methadone at first because she loved Taylor and didn't want to get her
in trouble.

"She says she didn't think the baby was in danger, but she kept quiet
when he was critically ill.

"Neither of them are too popular around the prison. Most of the women
have kids, and even the ones who are addicts wouldn't dream of giving
them drugs.

"To keep them safer, Taylor and Cowan are in with women who have
committed offences against children."

Taylor, 29, gave methadone to the tot at the home she shared with Cowan
in Leith, Edinburgh, in November 2008.

She was sentenced last year but her case couldn't be reported until this
week because Cowan was still denying that she failed to tell medics
about the poison.

Cowan, 28, changed her plea to guilty on Tuesday.

Taylor was jailed for 26 months in May last year for mugging an old lady
at knifepoint to get money for drugs. She'll start serving her sentence
for the methadone poisoning when she finishes doing her time for the
street attack.
