Device: Apexi Rev-Speed Meter
(http://www.apexi-usa.com/meters_revspeedmeter.asp)
In the processs of ripping the stereo out of my friend's car, the
thief apparently gave a good whack to this unit -- causing the display
to go dark.
Opening it up, it appears to be a graphical display made by Futaba -
I'd say about 64x32. In fact, it appears that the entire device is
made by Futaba!
Poking at stuff made the display flicker back to life a few times -- I
determined that the problem is a dead SMD transformer used to drive
the VFD.
The transformer is about 0.4x0.4x0.25 inches. It's a black circular
"can" on top of a rectangular base -- filament wires come down from
the "can" to the 10 solder pads on the base. It seems that one or
more of those wires are broken, and I don't think I can fix it.
It has this stamped on it:
440
YK-
Anyone know where I can find an exact replacement? Failing that, how
can I determine the winding ratio so I can try to substitute another
transformer?
(For what it's worth, I thought this was the filament voltage, but
when the device is powered on, I can see faintly glowing red lines
across the display.)
Thanks!
