Simple Timer Circuit.

I need a very simple 2 hour timer to remind me to take my medications.
I have made up a lot of circuits from electronic magazines so I feel
confident that I could make something up provided that I have the same
level of instructions. The timer needs to be small enough to carry
unobtrusively in a pocket and the indication of the end of the 2 hour
period would preferably be by vibration but an audible signal would be
better than visual. Accuracy is not an issue, +/- 5 minutes would be
adequate. If I could buy one ready made that would be nice but I like to
make things if I can!
Any suggestions?

How about using an old mobile phone
for your alarm/vibration timer.

I think there were some shops like Jaycar or DSE that had a "parking Timer"
which was set at about the 2 hour mark from memory that could do what you
want.

Hi DD,

You could do that with a CD4060 chip. It has a built-in oscillator and a
14 stage divider, all in one chip. Power consumption is minimal and it
tolerates a wide fluctuation in battery voltage, so you don't have to
regulate much. Of course it all depends on how precise you want the
two-hour timing.

Sounds good but I would need some very explicit instructions if I were
to attempt to make up a timer. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Jaycar have one of these listed new for 2004 and at $9.95 it is looking
good!

Hi DD,

You might also take a look at wrist watches at a really large store. I
have seen some with multiple alarm programming modes, including regular
alarms. I think it was for some sports purpose. Maybe they have one that
can be set to beep every two hours until you acknowledge by pressing the
silence button. This way you wouldn't have to carry any additional
device around.
