simple design software?

hello all.
i've been working on some relatively simple control projects
(for light machinery) and have been using electromechanical
sensors and relays.

some of the logic is getting a little more complicated but i haven't
stepped up to PLC use yet.

I'm wondering if there is any simple software out there i might
use to analyze my conditions and have it generate a diaghram for me.
tell me things like how many relays, what kind, etc.

anything? or should i stick with my paper and pencil?
