shreds getting stuck inside shredder.

I've got a cross cut shredder and little pieces sometimes
accumulates between the blades. Can I minimize this effect by
lubricating the blades with silicone by shredding a piece of paper
sturated with silicone spray or will I make things worse by doing this?
 
For what is worth, I recently noted at Office Depot a pack of "shredder
lubrication sheets" or some such name. You might want to examine the
packet instructions and then buy or make your own.

Just a thought. Clean the cutter discs as much as you can with a wire
brush followed by a toothbrush. Then shred some waxed paper from your
kitchen supplies. The wax paper solution is from an old household
tip for some other problem. As there is little new under the sun this
may be the Office Depot solution too. I haven't tried this out myself
but it costs you nothing to check it out.

Also check the shredder's assembly screws. The cutter pressure may
mave loosened the discs somewhat to give a little slop between the
cutter discs.
 
I worked briefly as a repair Tech for a Shredder Company. The Techs Just
lubed the Blades with oil periodicly. I use LPS or WD40 sprayed into the
paper slot while actuating the paper Switch. Not too much, but just enough
to cover the surface.

Perhaps a bottle of paper shredder oil (a light machine oil by the
appearance?) from your favorite office supply emporium would do the job?

Used to work on electromechanical cash registers among other
equipment. WD40 is a killer. It will fix many mechanical problems
temporarily by in the end jam things up really bad when the bearings
dry up (soon enough) and the paper dust collects in the recesses with
the WD40 or lube oil binding them into a tight wad of wood pulp.

The original shredder had dry bearings. That says something and it is
not to put lubricant into it. Same with all other equipment that have
dry bearings. Do not try to fix it with a lubricant. Clean and
adjust only, eg snug up the scews.
 
Nisco Equipment Solutions in Bethel, Ct. sells an oil specifically for
shredders. I don't know what the composition is but I can attest to its
effectiveness. Their telephone number is/was 203-744-7009
