Short circuited switching transistor?

[Uddo Graaf]

I have a TV which blows the fuse everytime I plug it in. Looking at the
schematic, it uses the regular setup: switching power supply IC and a
switching transistor. I haven't taken out the transistor yet for inspection
but I suspect it may be short-circuited.

My questions: a ) could this lead to the fuse being blown on startup and
b ) is this a common fault in TV sets?

Uddo,

It's possible but you can also have a short circuit in the rectifier, filter
or elco. Use the serial lightbulbtrick to find out.

AFAIK the most common fault in TV sets is in the horizontal output stage.
Power supply being a good second.
