EAST PALO ALTO, Calif. (KGO) -- An East Palo Alto woman will spend a
year in jail for stealing $1,700 worth of Dr. Scholl's shoe insoles by
switching the price tags at a Redwood City drug store.
The judge also ordered 44-year-old Sylvia Johnson to pay restitution
after she pleaded no contest to two counts of grand theft and one count
of commercial burglary.
Police say surveillance shows Johnson putting fake bar-codes on more
than 30 insoles then paying the cashier $50 for the bunch.
Prosecutors believe she planned to return the insoles for a refund.
