Greeting group.
Sharp VC-H85X vcr.

I have good playback picture, and mono sound.
But I do not get stereo sound in LP or SP playback.
The display should show "L" and "R" under the VU meter.
The display does show this in E-E mode.

Playing back LP that was recorded in this vcr or another
stereo vcr gives me mono sound with a faint fast ticking
in the background. But I do not hear this from a SP recording.

The only problems I have seen in models like this were in
the power supply or they needed new belts.

I cannot find any reference in EFIL about this fault.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Russell Griffiths.

Hi,

I have seen this caused by faukty video head on another VCR.
Hi-Fi heads are positioned on the upper drum with video heads.

Try cleaning heads first.

Hi Russell,

I'm inclined to agree with Rudolf. Clean the Upper drum as you normally
would.

If you are still having problems then use an oscilloscope and observe the
Hi-Fi FM envelope, you'll probably need to trigger from the Drum F/F signal
to get a stable lock.

If there are small dips in the envelope then slight adjustment of the guide
poles may provide a temporary solution.

If the heads are badly worn then no amount of adjustment will solve the
problem and you'll need to replace them.

Hope this helps,
James
