Hi, I have a sharp stereo model number cd-ba200 and everytime i try to turn
it on, it makes a pop noise (thru the speakers) and then displays "protect"
on the screen. I assume it is protection for the speakers/amp from damage,
but I don't know the root of the problem. I've tried reseting the unit to
no avail. It's almost as if the volume is stuck permantly on High. The
manual says nothing on any of this and all sharp can tell me to do is to
either unplug it for x hours to reset it or to take it to an authorized
service center. I guess i'm looking for any suggestions on either the cause
or how to fix it.

Thanks in advance,

You will have to take the unit to the authorized service centre, or a
service centre that can repair your unit. It may be that the output stage
has some damage to it.

The output stage devices and pre-driver devices, can be damaged from several
common causes:

The user plays the unit excessively loud, thus over driving the output stage
and speakers.
A speaker driver, and or a crossover in one or both speaker boxes has gone
defective, and thus damaged the output stage. Usually speaker devices go
defective from being over driven.
The speaker wires were shorted, thus overloading the output stage.
The power supply went defective, and damaged the output stage (rarely
happens).
