Our Scott TV (27") is started shutting itself down from time to time.
Though the power is still on, there is no picture or sound. It is
attached to a cable line through a VCR and is just as dead whether
watching cable or a tape. If we turn it off and wait a while, it tends
to start working again.

Any ideas what may be going on?

Thanks!

Pull the chassis out turn it over
get out your Magnifying Glass
and look for Bad dry solder connections.
Resolder all that look suspicious.

There are either bad solder connections, or there is a component(s) that has
become thermo sensitive.
