Just been handed one with the comment, "plugged in power, loud bang and
smoke"
upon opening the unit up, it appears the surface mount component EC07 has
failed. Does anyone know the value of this component?

thanks.

** The value of that component is that it makes a loud bang when the rest
of the circuit fails.

Components capable of this function can be very valuable indeed.

** I was not kidding one bit.

Noises are an important guide to and warning of trouble in electronic
equipment - so much so that I find I must have the workshop as quiet as
possible when doing repairs on items like amplifiers and anything
mechanical.

I know some who play loud music when working - but they are never good
techs.

Could it be an electrolytic capacitor? Can you describe it?

Voxson rebadge cheap crap..... that could have come from anywhere... some
dinky factory out the back of a real one in some cave dwelling community at
the far reaches of tibet.

Maybe another tag, labelled 'unfixable due to alien components' is
suitable.

IIRC, the "EC" descriptor is used on some motherboards to denote
Electrolytic Capacitors. Not so alien ...
