Samsung TV's reliable?

A friend is looking to get a 27" SDTV & asked me what I think of them.
I said I haven't heard anything bad about Samsung, but when I thought
about it, I haven't really heard anything at all.
Any comments on reliability & picture quality? It's a second TV
mainly for his kids.

Samsung is okay. Better than LG, IMO, but I would recommend considering a
Toshiba. - Reinhart

I have a 27" Samsung that is about 6 years old, only serviced it once.
Agreed, there are far worse items such as Apex, Zenith, Etc. Depending on
what your friend wants to spend he can look at Sony, Snarp, Hitachi, Etc.

Samsung is also fine but I would rather look at a midrange RCA set
without Gemstar feature. Samsungs stick with stereo models and nearly
all used RCA tube in 27", it's a toss up in 25" models.

Get one that has component, s-video and regular video inputs. Xboxes
use component video to get most of pix quality. RCA, Samsung has them
for reasonable price for 27" models. No reason to pay more for one
with xbox plug (retangular female plug), it is combined component &
audio input.

Even consider JVC also, again 27" models uses RCA tubes which also is
good and newest models has all the inputs you want and power efficient
(105W) due to new power supply design in JVC sets in began in mid
2003. RCA, Samsung usually consumes 120 to 160W.

Samsung TV's and monitors are very good IMHO. I also like LG.
