I'm cross-posting this at the suggestion of a response to one of my posts on
the A+ Newsgroup. I hope that someone can be of assistance.
Original post follows --
I have a question for the assembled multitude.
I teach Electronics/Computers/A+ at a local Tech school. I'm interested in
adding safety instruction to my part of the class.
Not all of my students will go on to become A+ certified or work in the
computer field. Some will do field service on office equipment and the
like, go into radio, etc.
A little background. Before coming to my school full-time, I worked "in the
field" for 30+ years. I've worked in the industrial enviornment & the
office environment. I've seen my share of machinery related injuries
(electric shock, pinch points, crushing injuries, heavy things dropped on
toes - both protected with steel toes & unprotected, etc.) and office
related injuries (electric shock, dropped items, etc.).
I've been discussing this in class sort of "ad hoc." Discussing the various
ways that a working tech can get maimed or killed. Generally I use "horror
stories" based on myself & others that have had accidents and anecdotes from
my years "out there."
I'd like to make this a part of the curriculum for the course. I'm looking
to find various rsources that I can use as part of the course. Primarily,
I'm looking for videos, handouts and the like. I've been to some of the
Safety Video companies, but most of their stuff is greared to companies &
their prople who are already out in the field.
Anyone have any ideas &/or suggestions? Keep in mind that most of my
students are post high school & don't have a lot of experience in the
workforce. They haven't had much exposure to the kinds of accidents that
can occur in an industrial environment. I don't want to go into the "ultra
gory" stuff, but I *do* want to "put the fear of God" into them so they'll
have some idea of how to work safely.
Anyone have any ideas where I can find these type of resources?
TIA,
