S/W and H/W to Daily Update an Answering Machine Device?

I'm looking for a software package and possibly hardware that allows one

to update an answering machine daily with a new message. The message
information is on a CD and there is a track for each day of the week. We

would like to have a specific phone extension contain a new message each

day. For example, the message might say, "Today's meeting will be held
at 8 a.m in conference room 12 on the third floor." To me the software
end seems somewhat simple in that all one would need is a PC running
continuously 7/24 that is scheduled to load a new track onto a recording

device each day. Anyone know of such PC software and hardware?

It looks like you are trying to modify a PBX system. ( i.e. specific
phone extension )

It looks like a NON-trivial project.

That's what I would like to know. If someone builds it, then maybe we'll buy it. There's no doubt in
my mind that someone with a reasonable knowledge of a language like VBasic could write the front end
to capture the next track on the CD each day and have it read to download to a machine. There are in
fact PCs that act as answering machines. I have no intentionally to personally write it if someone
has already done it.

Erm... Maybe I'm missing the point here, but...

1. Get a PC with a modem and some sort of voicemail software. Get one
that works by playing/recording standard "wav" files from the PC.

2. Find which wav file is being played upon answer.

3. Use the Task Scheduler (or similar) to overwrite the wav file each
day with a new one.

Ta da!

Something like that maybe?

Close. I'm not familiar with voicemail, but I'll look. Not familiar with the task
scheduler either. W2000 scheduler? How do I tell 'something' to take the next wav
file off the CD, or a specific date file, and load it into the voicemail s/w db?

I think I know whats wrong here.

Are you looking to modify/program an existing "answering
machine" or are you looking at purchasing Hw/Sw for an NEW
answering maching.

If you have an existing "answering machine", then my first
statement stands "whose is it ?"

If you are looking for a NEW answering machine, then are you
looking for ONE incoming line to have multiple "extentions"
each with a different message ( updated as necessary )
or
a NEW answering machine for a multi-line PBX to have a different
message ( updated as necessary ).

Voicemail is a generic term used for any phone messaging system.

Each voicemail system has its own way of updating outgoing
messages. How much do you want to spend ?

Google is your friend, when you do not know what it is you
want...

This is for a museum. We have a simple machine that currently allows one to record a
voice message (answering) when no one is able to answer the phone. I can't imagine
that device being capable of what we want. Not knowing much about these devices, I'd
say we want a PC that will answer the extension reserved for these changes to daily
messages. Cost? How about less than $100.00. One line, and one msg. You call (530)
265-XXXX and it answers with the message for the day. It either hangs up after giving
the message or you get a chance to replay it, and a chance to tell it to hang up. We
probably would not be interested in something other than a PC, since I think the cost
would be considerable.

I'm quite familiar with Google. The closest I've found on this subject is
<xxxxx--below>, and I'm sure none of them do what I want. I do have a msg to one of
them asking what they can recommend that will do the jobl.

xxxxx URL is on another machine. Do a Google on "pc answering machine software" (I
think that's it) and look for a result from TechTV. There's a review of about six s/w
pacakges.
For some reason there is lots of html in this message, and I'm having trouble sending

Ok, we now know what you really want to do.

One line, One message, PC based. So you want software. Good.

Many voicemail capable modems come with _free_ software.

If you do not have a voicemail capable modem, go to you local
computer store and look at the modems. The ones with voicemail
capability will have some sort of software included.

This will be a start. Jot down the name of the software included
and look then up online. There you may get ideas for inserting
into google.

I just tried this and came up lots of hits to sort thru.

I am sure others may have sugestions for software you can use.
I have never use this type of software, but I have designed PBXs.

Since you speak Google :), I got there by entering "answering machine
software techtv". Several packages are reviewed.

Voicemail is the key it seems. I'll look for it at my local computer
store (Staples), and what you turned up on Google. Maybe there's a
voicemail newsgroup and a Yahoo group.

Heavens! What do you use to compose messages? I have to start a new
message and copy the subject. Every time I try to reply to you, my old
NScape 4.75 mail program doesn't know what to do about the embedded
html. I see in the hidden code of this message... Well, this time when I
view the source I see no html except for the URL. Oh, well. I don't get
why the msg xmission fails.
