I think the saving is cost and hassle of having to go to the hospital
for an injection, not the needle prick. BTDT. No T-shirt.

If it was an oral dosing form, you\'d have to wonder why an enteric
tablet wouldn\'t suffice.

It\'s more than that. The drug delivery is more measured and effective when administered to the intestinal lining. The dosing schedule in the case of the osteoporosis drug is something like once every 3-6 months. It doesn\'t require a skilled practitioner to administer it, making for low cost. The alternative subdermal injection requires someone who knows what they\'re doing. The adherence to the drug schedule should be much improved because of the convenience and pain free experience.

The intestinal lining is not perforated, the microneedle is dimensioned to just stick in the topmost layer. And that micro-penetration wound heals in a matter of days.
