Used to make this stuff wiv mum when I was young. No, that's wrong.... I
made the scones, bigger sis made the melting moments and big sis made the
flapjacks, I think.

Dad made the bread and it was rock hard... but tasty wiv a nice texture,
Yum.

So, having bought some at Spar I thought..... I can do this.

I've got some Oats, not Scotts Porridge ones unfortunately. A tin of Lyles
Golden Syrup. And a couple of packs of Anchor Butter.

Apart from the other stuff in the Knightsbridge Recipe there is also Soft
Brown Sugar......

So, I think that's the basic stuff unless you want to gay about a bit wiv
it.

Speaking of which, I also have some coconut cream and I am slightly
tempted...

Anyway, all advice appreciated.

Ok, I got my recipe from a female friend of mine who got it from her mum.

12oz Oats
8oz Butter
8oz Sugar - pref soft brown

Melt the butter, stir in the sugar and blend in the oats. Pack into typically
2 small baking tray ( line with foil for easy extraction ) and put in oven at
400F IIRC ( not too hot or they burn ).

Leave til top has nicely browned. Leave in slightly longer for harder texture.

I expect substituting some Golden Syrup for refined sugar will likely tend to
produce a harder biscuit too.

Score into portions whilst still warm or you'll regret it.

I have indeed added coconut flakes - as opposed to milk - That seems to work
ok.

You may also be interested in blending in a fine powder of a substance
commonly bought in a measure call 'a quarter'. ;-) Contact me for best
method of producing the required particulate 'dust' texture.

Produces 24 reasonably sized biscuits and the effect is quite strong per
biscuit too. Adjust as required. A small bodied female friend ate 2 at a party
once not realising and was 'flying' for the next day. In comparison half of
one 'portion' is a nice prelude to a late evening at the pub without making
anything obvious ( aside from the grin ! ).

Didn't get any flour so something else.. perhaps 300gms of Porridge oats?

Let's see.....

200gms of unsalted butter, bugger... it's salted and weighs 250gms so I'll
cut it in half and use half the coconut milk which weighs 266gms in its
wrapper. I might end up with soggy flapjacks...

Fortunately frozen butter slices into halves, sort of. Stick butter in
disgusting pan (it's the people I live with) on low heat with lid on to
melt.

OK, snip off the top of the coconut cream and pour out the water.

Finds favourite wooden spatula thing and stirs melting butter. Goes for a
roll up.

Catches melted butter just as it's starting to get a bit too hot (maybe ?).

Adds a guessed half of the coconut cream.

Get interfered with by idiot whilst writing. Another idiot joins in. Tell
them to go away. They do.

Ah right...... having taken butter off the heat, coconut cream melts in
butter. Looks a bit smeggy but....

Is it time for the sugar? Off we go... 100gms of soft 'dark' brown sugar.
Bung that in and give it a stir seems to dissolve quite well.

Golden syrup. Tin is 454gms so I'll try pouring a quarterish.

Whoops, that was a third.

This is looking bad but, never mind. I've got to mix in these Oats now so
I'll heat it up a bit.... no I'll put the rest of the coconut cream in it.
That's just the kind of drunkard I am...

Ooops, I now have a saucepan with dark brown stuff in the bottom, looks like
gravy. I am worried, this is looking like the last time I tried to make
toffee...

On with the Oats.... OK I'll measure them... 300gms, but gradually add them.
I've got wimpy forearms so I don't know if I'm up to stirring it in.

Not a problem, ended up using 500gms of Oats. Still looks soggy..... smells
and tastes like Flapjack!!!!!! That's the best thing about cooking, you get
to taste the scrapings.

Stick some greaseproof paper on the bottom of a tray and dollop the mix in.
Try and spread it about.... that doesn't work too well. Give up and hope
heat and gravity will doo the stuff.

Into the pre-heated oven at gas mark 3. I'm cautious so it's on the middle
tray...

Tumm Teee Tumm Tee Tummm Tee Tum.....

That's two minutes, got to wait for 25-30 but I'll give up and give it a
turn sometime. It's gas so it's not fan assisted.

Don't know nuffink, I could end up with toasty edges.

Looking good at 26, I think I'll cut my losses at 28 and take it out to
cool. Obviously scoring it into bits.

And.... we're out and sliced up. Hope it becomes a bit solid.

The best pancakes going are *baked*- you mix them up in an iron skillet
and then bake in the oven. My preference is to top them with
confectioner sugar, blueberry jam, and maple syrup. See "baked":

Here we go again.

This time 250gms of Anchor butter.... 200gms of soft dark brown sugar and...
something out of a pot of double cream. Dry roasted penuts (washed), mixed
fruit and dessicated coconut. Plus what must be about 750gms of oats.

Also a couple of blocks of Scotchblock(?) cooking chocolate melted with a
bit of mixed fruit, double cream and dessicated coconut added...... Tooo
pour on top.

This has got to fail!

Sore arm after mixing in oats. Places it in 'deep' pan (going for thick ones
here) with greaseproof paper, bungs in oven, middle shelf, on gas mark
3......
