Hello could someone tell me where i can get the schematics and exploded
parts diagram for an Instrument Direct Box for this model: ??
Whirlwind IMP 2 Standard Direct Box.

Or any really good simple standard quality Direct Boxes for lowering
impedance and isolation of hum and buzzes.
I would like to buy every electrical component to build one myself, since I
KNOW for fact that some of those types out there in guitar Center can cimply
be built if you know how-to. etc. hehe :)
email me paul7622000@yahoo.com
Sincerely,
Paul

I'm sure plenty of people will email you, at both of those addresses,
offering many fine products, most unrelated to direct boxes.

At its core, a direct box is just a transformer. The IMP-2 has no
attenuators, filters, etc; it is, I think, just a transformer. But other
direct boxes often have additional features.

There are a number of schematics at http://www.jensentransformers.com that
will tell you what you need to know. One comparable to the IMP-2 is
http://www.jensentransformers.com/as/as007.pdf.

Awesome thank you,
this is where i would be ordering my Transformers from becuz its
specifically what the IMP2 or the other DI Box contain as in transformers
thru that known whirlwind usa company for direct boxes.

But can visit this site and check out the specs on these transformers and
maybe tell me if there are actually any generic transformers out there , so
i can save money and still get the same operation as these ones?? :) That
would be awesome to find....
sincerely,
Paul

I'm having a little difficulty parsing your request, as it seems to be
missing a couple of words. I *think* what you're asking is, can I do some
free research for you and attempt to find you a transformer that is as good
as the expensive ones but that is cheaper. The answer to that question is
no, for several reasons:
- I make my living by charging people money for engineering work, and I
need to pay the mortgage somehow;
- Manufacturers like Whirlwind have already done that work for you, and the
answer is "whatever is in their DI is the cheapest transformer they could
find that met the specs";
- In general, with audio transformers there really is a pretty good
correlation between price and performance.
But maybe I didn't understand what you were asking.

Regardless, since an IMP 2 costs about $35, you're going to have a very hard
time saving money by making it yourself. Markups on parts are generally
higher than markups on finished items, so it rarely pays to build
widely-available items yourself unless you need special features.
