Replace combined capacitors in a power tool....

Advice please..
This is a 250V 1450W Circular saw US made in the 1980s probably.
AEG CS825, It failed in use yesterday blowing fuses having been stored
in a garage. Dismantle reveals a leaking swelled combined (film)
capacitor 0.3uF + 2x 2500pF XY type 250V~ with 3 leads one coloured and
2 black. Too old for spare parts.
Presumably I can replace with X rated 250v or better individual caps but
I dont know enough!
Is the 0.3 for starting and the small two for anti interferance perhaps?

Actually it is a brushed (universal type) motor so it wont be for
starting. It will all 3 capacitors be for limiting interferance but I
dont know what the circuit would be. C+

starting. It will all 3 capacitors be for limiting interferance but I
dont know what the circuit would be. C+

These are for line filtering - They are only really effective if the
line power enters and leaves the cap body on separate wires, so their
replacements\' location anywhere near the line power exit should be
just as effective.

Use an X-rated part across the line, and Y-rated parts to the grounded
equipment metal body, from each line terminal. Capacitance equal to or
less than double the listed values.

RL - Thanks for the info, now I\'ll be able to re-create the circuit
(the original cap. failed short circuit), though in this case the earth
wire disappears into the motor but that is not external chassis
connected, presumably because double insulated. Thanks, C+

If you can find any electrical contact to the disappearing third
)ground) wire, then that\'s the connection needed. Probably on the
body of the motor.

RL No there was no external continuity for the disappearing (earth) and
any other point easily available - so I have just crimped to the old
wire and called it a day.. all working fine now so job jobbed using up
suitable X2 and Y caps from old equipment power supplies. Thanks for
