Is it possible to remove the platter from a technics SL-1200 ?

I have tried several times. It goes up a 5mm and then gets stuck against
....whatever ...

Some people say you have to apply quiet some force on it but I am afraid to
damage it.

Do you have any idea ?

thanks ...

Pull up on the platter with both hands, while a second person sharply taps the center spindle
with the back end of a screwdriver or etc. Don't usually need to do it that way with Technics
& other modern tables, but it was the only way to get the platter loose from the ancient
Garrard A70 & similar tables.

Not only is it possible, but when shipping the turntable, it's recommended.

I just tried removing the platter on my 1200. I put each of my index fingers
into one hole, and lifted. It did "stop" after a little while, but by
continuing to apply firm, gentle upwards pressure, I was able to remove it.
No need for screwdriver tapping. The force required wasn't too much.

The owner's manual advises being very careful when handling the platter, and
also says not to turn on the power without the platter in place.
