Remote control problem

My Sony RM-870 remote control has been working fine for a few years and now
all of a sudden, it will only work if the distance is no more than 30 cm in
front of the tv. The batteries have been replaced but same result. Any help
appreciated.

** The unit has likely gone off correct frequency.

Replace the ceramic resonator.
