Remote control button label question

I've just purchased a rather expensive universal remote (Home Theater Master
MX-500). Many of the button labels on the one I am replacing have worn off
over about two years of use.

Does anyone have any idea how I might prevent a similar experience with this
new one? I thought of using clear nail polish, but am afraid that might do
permanent damage.

Same idea but using clear ziplok bags. The type that are for snacks are
half sandwich size and handy for small remotes and the bigger one's for
larger remotes. Tape the flaps underneath with clear boxing tape.
The plastic is flexible yet strong enough to endure a lot of punishment.
When the cover gets too frumpy simply replace it. This way remotes will
not get wet, oily, dirty, or wear out, ever again.

.... Or you could try a full body condom!

In areas of heavy use of the remote controls for both industrial and
consumer TV sets, we wrap them in plastic wrap, or use a soft plastic
bag. Change the plastic about once or twice a week to keep it clean.
