Anyone know of a source for these in the UK.

Yes I know I could make some, but I don't have the time at the moment.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I meant a source at sensible prices.

CPC's prices are typically quite reasonable ( haven't checked this item - but
know what you mean about RS and Farnell ).

They may be cheap because they are poor quality.

I bought two for my multimeter, and one failed to charge beyond about 6V.

I cant recall where, but I did see a web page app note about a circuit that
stepped 1V5 up to 9V.

It pointed out that you get much more energy for your money out of a DO cell
than a PIP.

Try Remtrak.
http://www.remtrak.com/psu/IEC.htm
Part number REB9.
This battery is very rare now, and hence is only made in small quantities,
and does not get the discounted price seen for more popular batteries.

Best Wishes

Cheers everyone.

Farnell don't do them. RS have stopped doing them.

Rapid electronics are the cheapest I foundat 19 quid each. Quite reasonable.

I would make them as suggested. But 50 of them? No thanks!

Thats easy. Work out how much you save per piece, and how long it
takes to make. Now youve got a $/hour figure, which may inspire you to
enjoy making 50. If it doesnt, pay someone else per hour or per piece
to do the work. There are always people looking out for a bit of extra
dough.
