Rebate - Finally

Back on May 21, I bought a 5-port Gigafast switch for $34.95 with a $25
rebate. Yesterday, Aug 11, I finally received the rebate check in the
mail. Took just a bit less than 3 months for the check to arrive.

Actually that's pretty good from past experience. I never did get a
rebate coupon for one thing I bought, and other people I know say the
have had to wait closer to a year for their check.

It really sucks. I thought the FTC was cracking down on some companies
for abuse. I read about Philips getting in trouble for taking too long
with the CD-ROM drives they sold. Looks like the abuse is still continuing.

----------------(from OED Mini-Dictionary)-----------------
PUNCTUATION - Apostrophe
Incorrect uses: (i) the apostrophe must not be used with a plural
where there is no possessive sense, as in ~tea's are served here~;
(ii) there is no such word as ~her's, our's, their's, your's~.

Confusions: it's = it is or it has (not 'belonging to it'); correct
uses are ~it's here~ (= it is here); ~it's gone~ (= it has gone);
but ~the dog wagged its tail~ (no apostrophe).
----------------(For the Apostrophe challenged)----------------
From a fully deputized officer of the Apostrophe Police!

<<Spammers use Weapons of Mass Distraction!>>

I bought some batteries, but they weren't included,
so I had to buy them again.

FOR SALE: Nice parachute: never opened - used once.

Hey, if they can just hold onto your money for a few years they can give it
all back and still be ahead. It's just another way to finance a business.

Your doing better than I have ever done! I have never gotten a dime back
from any of these offers. If you ask me, its a waist of your postage money.
I always look for the deal (or savings) up front. I think your odds are something
like 1 in 10, that you'll get your rebate money. And they will call that a "on sale"
item. To me its just another scam...

I find rebates a nuisance and they *do* come slowly, but I've never
failed to get one.

I make copies of everything I send in and toss into the file cabinet
so I don't forget what I'm owed.

Rebates certificates for large amounts, say $100, I send certified.

I bought a CDRW and 120Gig drive at Circuit City. Talking to the sales guy,
he said that only 12% of people jump through all the hoops and get their
rebate. Though I'd never gotten the paperwork in on time, I was determined
to be part of the 12%. I got the CDRW one in the mail a day late, but the
$30 showed up the other day. Still waiting on the $60 for the hard drive,
but according to the website it's going to be sent.

Just read the rebate form carefully, and do everything they require.

I've never failed to get a rebate I'm entitled to. You have to read the
form and follow the directions faithfully, keep copies of everything you
send, and you have to start calling and asking where your rebate is as
soon as the specified time period expires. I've discovered that my
rebates are "returned by the postal service as undeliverable" about 75%
of the time according to the rebate fulfillment companies, although none
of the rest of my mail ever seems to go missing. I haven't decided
whether they're scamming me or just incompetent, but the latter seems
quite likely -- the rebate forms seem to be processed by minimally
trained chimps. But calling and being persistent seems to work.

I agee. I made a resolution a few ears ago to never buy anything with
a rebate. I also made a resolution to never buy anything for
computers from Fry's again.

Unfortunately, I haven't kept either resolution. :-(

But I've tried.

I did a web search and found some good articles on what's being done
about rebate abuse. I know of at least three people who have had to
wait almost a year to get their rebate checks. In my case, I didn't
receive one at all, similar to the followup above. That's the one
that made me make the resolution. And I do agree that the companies
arrange things so that the odds are against you ever getting your
money. One thing I noticed on one rebate check was that I received it
and the "must be cashed before" date had already expired! It still
went thru my checking acct, tho, without bouncing. Dirty, steenking
rats!

Oops, years, not ears, above. I'm not Vincent VanGogh, I still have
both of mine. But the rebate runaround wants to make me tear my hair
out! Especially when it's for 50 or 100 bucks!

what I've had to do recently.

I've been battling the P.O. to get them to stop delivering the junk
mail flyers. last year I went thru the motions of contacting the
companies to get my address removed from their lists. But I kept
getting the flyers, without the address cards. Turned out the idiot
cariers are delivering the flyers without the cards, which they are
_not_ supposed to do. So after talking to the stupidvisor at the
local P.O. and having mixed results, I submitted a Form 1500 for the
Pennysaver I received a few weeks ago, handed it to another
stupidvisor, and I'm waiting for a confirmation from the processing
center back east that it was received. But my guess is that I'll
never receive a confirmation, that the stupidvisors just tossed in the
trash can. In a few weeks, if I don't receive the confirmation, I'll
send the form directly to the processing center. Maybe that will get
their attention!

I have visited www.junkbusters.org a number of times during this last
year, and it was useful for getting the companies to remove my address

say this. I'm mad as hell, and i'm not gonna take it!

I got a $3000 rebate on my new car last year. However, I just signed it

I bought some software a few years ago, with rebates from both the publisher
and store. However, BOTH wanted the original UPC from the box.
Fortunately, the store accepted a photo copy, along with a note explaining
the situation. I received both rebates, which made the software almost
free.

Well, you know what they say... if ya can't beat 'em, join 'em. I remember
seeing a fella on TV who lived in Canada (I think) whose house was entirely
heated by junkmail... he'd sign up for as much paper junk as possible, and
put it directly into his fireplace. He'd get about 10 pounds of junk a day,
not bad for free heat! :)

That was Canada. Don't need junk mail here in So Calif. Got the
internet. The other day at work we printed out coupons from the
Souplantation website and went down and got a discount on our lunches.

But my problem is that the idiots at the P.O. send back the letters as
undeliverable if I'm gone for _only_ three days and the damn flyers
fill up the mailbox. I've lived at the same addr for decades, so it's
nothing to do with the address changing. The P.O. is truly the
ultimate pain in the a$$. Last year in August I looked at my license
plate and the tags had expired. I went to the DMV, and they told me
that my renewal notice had been sent back as undeliverable!
Unbelieveable! After that, I said, "Enough!" and I started doing what
I had to do to get the junk mail stopped. It would be effective _if_
the letter carriers would do their job!

I find letters-to-the-editor to be quite effective. After I had
several important (as in containing checks ;-) pieces of mail that
were returned as "Not at this address" I wrote a letter placing postal
employees at the bottom of the mental-capacity chain.

The day after the letter was printed in the newspaper I was confronted
by my postwoman, claiming she had been on vacation when it happened
and the substitute must've done it.

But, somehow, it's never happened again ;-)
